Computing & Web Design

I have been in IT for 35 years covering electronics design & build, computer hardware/software design and build, voice/data networking, telephony, and IT Project and Programme management. I have a particular interest in computer graphics and building web sites, and I also get involved with installation, setup, expansion and repair of computer systems, wireless networks, and software packages etc. I design and build web sites for small businesses, clubs, societies and personal use,  using my wide systems, graphical and business knowledge to make simple, effective sites with visual impact.

Marine Aquatics

Since visiting the Caribbean on holiday and swimming on the coral reefs, I got the marine aquatics bug. So for the past 20 years I have kept both fish only and coral reef aquariums. What with detailed water chemistry, filtration methods, special lighting, and feeding regimes, this has not been an easy journey. However, I eventually achieved stable marine aquariums and have been able to consistently maintain them. To have a live coral reef in your house is an amazing site, with ever changing interest and a massive focal point for viewing and discussion. I do not know anyone who does not appreciate the scene.

With lots of reading, extensive trial and error, and the valuable assistance of friends and some good trade contacts, I achieved my goal. Now I would like to help others do the same, but with less pain!

I am taking the opportunity to set up a new aquarium using all my previous knowledge and experience to hopefully achieve a technically advanced system providing an outstanding display. Along the way I am photographing and documenting the journey so that when it is completed I can write a book to help others do the same.

Scouting

I have been a scout leader since April 2002 in the local village of Hartford in Cheshire. This started by supporting my two sons as they went through scouts, and ended with me becoming a permanent fixture. We look after 40+ scouts each week, doing all sorts of activities including hiking, climbing, canoeing, cycling, rafting, pioneering, survival, back woods cooking, camping, and arts & crafts. Believe it or not, it’s very tough and challenging work, but the people are great, the outdoor activities help me keep fit, and the kids get so much out of it that overall it’s very rewarding. Last summer we took a group of 46 to the Kandersteg International Scouting Centre in Switzerland for two weeks. Now that’s a challenge!
